Abacot Grange was the dwelling of a well-to-do local farmer. Things started to go wrong. The weather changed dramatically - his crops failed repeatedly and the Grange fell into disrepair. The farmer called upon evil spirits to help him, and sacrifices were held in the dead of the night. Piercing screams were heard coming from the Grange - followed by a deathly silence. Years later the Grange still stands but no-one has dared to go near it. The rumours are that the farmer found something before that terrible night, waiting to be claimed by anyone brave enough to enter.

Game Log: 28 October 2004- 5 August 2010

Turn121: Bruno works his way through translating the scroll into English "This is the curse of abacot grange. Once read out loud it (t)will free the lord from his unending death and abacot grange will be no more”
Once these words are uttered, piercing screams emanate from all of the servants and smoke pours out of their ears. The servants fall writhing to the ground and gradually dissolve into the floor. The dog wags its tail, the lady suddenly smiles and walks over to the Lord who has slumped into his chair. "My Lord, you can wake up now - all is well." The Lord opens his eyes and stares at the servant leaning over him and with sudden recognition he realises that the servant is his long lost love. "My love what has happened? Are we reunited again?" The lady smiles at him and says "Yes, it is all over, the curse has been lifted, and you have these adventurers to thank for that." The Lord, Lady and dog look at the bedraggled adventurers, smile and say "Thank you, you will be rewarded for your efforts and persistence. You have our gratitude." The three of them gradually fade away until they cannot be seen anymore. At that same moment the walls of the Grange crumble and disappear until nothing is left. At long last it is over......

Bruno gets 50XP for 'defeating' the Noble; 20XP for the Dog; 10XP for translating the scroll, with another 10XP for managing it outside of his experience.
Everyone gets 5XP for every turn not 'nmr' since turn 86 (when KenW left), so Walter +135(=35-8nmr); Yani +70(=35-21nmr); Bramley +115(=35-12nmr); Bruno +155(=35-4nmr); Shane +30(=35-29nmr).

Well done to all of you (nearly 6 years - amazing!!!!!!!) - it has been very entertaining in places, and I hope you gained some enjoyment out of it.

The final results are:- 1st Bruno 422 (a well deserved win for his persistence and completing the game); 2nd Walter 405 (he was there almost to the end); 3rd Yani 364; 4th KenW 362; 5th Bramley 333; 6th Shane 228

Turn120: In the absence of anyone else Bruno rolls up the scroll and returns to the Master. The Master takes one look at the scroll and leaps up shouting "This is it, this is it! This is the treasure my true love gave to me, that my mutt of a dog stole from me. Now if only I could read it?????? My true love did say that the name of the place 'abacot grange' was in the curse twice, so perhaps that could help someone interpret it for me, but I can't see the same words twice, unless of course they are words with just the same number of letters. What do you think?"
Turn119: Bruno suggests going back to the Master but the rest of the party just look blankly at him, seemingly totally confused by the scroll in front of them.
Turn118: Bruno responds : Good boy .. good boy …giving a hug to the dog …takes the parchment showing it to Walter ..as a leader and wizard he must have a better understanding …at last I think we will come back to see the master … Walter carefully sniffs the paper, looking for any signs of magical runes or dangerous inscriptions, then opens the parchment and sees what is on it.
The scroll smells of nothing except slightly moist soil. He can tell that it is magical and appears to be a curse (10XP) and on it inscribed in bold letters: uijt ku wkh gyvwi tk ghgiuz nyhunl. wvkm anjm yed wzfo uf gvyy tfss iwt beht wifd zak ngxgwbgz xyunb viy wxwykp doxkdb ugjj ab no npsf. Meanwhile, the dog looks on expectantly and stands guard.
Turn117: Both Walter and Bruno follow the dog hoping to find what they are searching for. The dog runs towards the main door in the Hall, 'woof woof, pant, pant' sniffs at the lady in the doorway and wags his tail 'pant, pant, woof, woof' and walks out of the door waiting for Walter and Bruno. He then runs to the edge of the grass and starts digging. 'Woof, woof' the dog barks as he stops digging and pulls out a piece of parchment covered in dirt. He looks towards Walter and Bruno expectantly.
Turn116: With seemingly only Bruno remaining in the game, he asks 'good boy good boy ....where is the letter your master gave to you ?' With an excited wag of his tail and a quick 'woof, woof' the dog walks out of the door heading towards the courtyard. He turns to check that his new friend is following him.
Turn115: Bruno runs to Shane to give him an everlasting potion, but there is no response! The cat skulks away into a corner to hide. It appears that the dog must have the solution to resolve the riddle of Abacot Grange.
Turn114: Walter manages to splash the cat with water from his water-skin. "That will teach you..." Meanwhile Bruno uses the ring to talk to the dog "Good boy. Attack the cat!" The dog runs off towards the hissing, while Bruno excuses himself from the Lord and walks in the same direction as the dog. As the dog skids into the room he screeches to a halt as he sees the cat dripping with water and looking like a drowned rat. All hissing has stopped and the cat looks up at the dog and issues a plaintive "meeeeow?" The dog is highly amused by this, sits down and wags his tail at Walter. "Woof?"
Turn113: The cat leaps at Walter with its claws outstretched before Walter can prepare his sling...
Meanwhile Bruno shows the dog to the master and suddenly the Lord surfaces out of his daydream and says : "My dog, my dog where have you been. What a naughty boy for leaving me like that! Now where did you take that letter that I gave you? Have you been burying things again? You have a dirty nose - perhaps you could show these good people where you have taken that scroll and I might be able to reward you with a few of their.. oops... somebody else's spare bones that I have." Woof, woof replies the dog, turns to Bruno and wags his tail.
Bruno turns away shocked by the sudden shouts and hissing coming from the direction of the bedroom where the cat and Walter are not on the best of terms.
Turn112: Walter runs towards Shane to save him from the cat. The cat towers over the unconscious body of Shane pawing at him and causing even more damage. As Walter enters the room the cat turns to face him. Meanwhile Bruno talks to the lady 'mademoiselle ..; do you know this dog?' gives a light hugging to the dog ...and looks at his collar for anything interesting ..then searching for the master if he still looking for his dog .... He is unable to find anything in the collar but then realises that the Lord is still sitting at his table oblivious to what is happening and clearly hasn't noticed the dog yet.
Turn111: Walter follows the dog to see what it will do, while Bruno quickly checks the room (but doesn't find anything of interest) and moves back into the main hall. Meanwhile Shane collapses from being licked to unconsciousness by the cat. The dog runs into the Main Hall to lick the leg of the damsel who is still waiting at the double-doorway, while waiting for any of the Party members to join it. Walter is close on its heels as Bruno catches up.
Turn110: nmr from everyone except Walter who opens the door for the dog. The dog moves through the doorway turns around and grins at Walter (5XP for doing the right thing!)
Turn109: nmr from Shane & Yani. Bruno uses the ring and concentrates (10XP) on what could be the most precious thing could be for the dog. Walter & Bramley stick close together to await any developments. Walter smirks* that will be a nice plan I step back and wait for Bramley's plan to take action. (Hmmm what plan is that then?). The dog suddenly awakens, looks at Bruno, bares his teeth in a grin, pants and wags his tail. "Woof, woof", looks longingly at Bruno, jumps off the bed and walks quickly out of the door. The dog then finds that the next door to the main hall is closed, so he scratches desperately at it and whines, turning towards his new found friends.
Turn108: nmr from Shane & Yani. Walter:  I wait and see what is in the room, if it is dangerous then I will cast the incantation of the unexpected tiredness(Sleep). Bramley: opens West door, and examines  room. Bruno: closes the north door, then gets ready to face the thing in the west room with an axe and a torch and mentally ready to use if needed the "ring of animal control". Bramley whispers to the others "There is a big black dog in here, fast asleep on the bed!" Zzzzzzzzzzzz... ... Meanwhile there is a shout outside the North door as someone says "Go and get that cat off one of our guests in the second bedroom."
Turn107: nmr from Shane. Bruno looks for the West door, which is, not surprisingly, to the West. Bramley then listens at that door, while Walter waits for someone to open it for him. Yani follows Walter. There is a piercing hiss in the room a long way to the North and a deep throated gurgle... and then silence. In the intense silence Bramley can hear some strange noises coming from the other side of the door .... snore wiffle wiffle yip yip... sigh... yip, yip.
Turn106: nmr from Shane & Yani. Walter joins up with the rest while Bramley examines the brown patches to find that they smell rather disgustingly of dog. Bruno looks towards the East room - the door is closed.
Turn105: nmr from Shane. Walter chats amiably to the Noble trying to find out more, but he is unhelpful. Yani is unable to find any traps. Bramley opens the South door and finds that, apart from two armchairs it appears to be empty. Bruno looks out for the dog but can't find anything - however there are one or two brownish patches on the floor just in front of the chairs. Meanwhile back in the bedroom to the North there is a hiss, a meow and a sharp intake of breath.
Turn104: nmr from Shane. As the clock strikes 5 in the early hours of the morning, all move towards the South at a normal pace with Walter ensuring that he is with the rest. Bruno, as the slowest, lags behind a bit, but Walter keeps an eye on him. Because of the party's differing walking rate, this action splits the team up into a defenceless position. Fortunately there is nothing untoward at present as the Noble merely looks on with some interest and slight amusement. "I hope that you didn't disturb my cats too much, they can get nasty if upset!"
Turn103: nmr from Shane. Bruno attempts to use the ring and asks for it to show favourite things. The only animal nearby is the cat on the bed. She stretches and makes a purrrr...ing sound, bounds off the bed and out of the room. Everyone looks at her in surprise, but since no-one follows immediately, she returns to Bruno and rubs up against his leg 'miaowing'. Walter, Yani & Bramley leave the room and wait for Bruno.
Turn102: nmr from Shane & Yani. Bramley rests for a while, but not long enough to regain his spells, while Walter examines the scroll in the chest "Hmm how wonderful - a scroll shall I try to read or translate it, I'll take a look at the scroll." Bruno rummages around in the chest for the ring and then bravely tries it on for size. Walter immediately identifies the scroll as a Diary (10XP) which says "the dog has hidden my prized possession, what am I to do? He usually cowers in one of the spare bedrooms on the other side of the Main Hall, but I don't have time to find him now!" Bruno suddenly has a strange feeling as he puts the ring on, of happy, contented animals doing exactly what he wants them to - keeping him warm and comfortable and bringing him food, and even showing him where their favourite things are.
Bruno suggests moving South.
Turn101: nmr from Shane. Yani & Bruno examine the inside of the chest - "that was a close one" "Great work, what shall we do next?" , while Bramley rests and Walter checks that nothing is happening in the Main Hall. All is very quiet and calm. There are no more traps inside the chest and a small gold ring can be seen glinting in the bottom and a scroll lying next to it. There is nothing else in the box.
Turn100: Yani bravely attempts to disarm the trap on the chest, while Walter & Shane watch carefully after their rejuvenating rest. Bramley lifts the covers after his nap and decides not to disturb the cat (thought the cat was in the other room - never mind, there must be a second camouflaged cat in the Bedroom2) , who continues to purr gently. Just as he lifts the covers though, the cat stretches out and sticks the claws of one paw into Bramley's clothing - Bramley holds his breath struggling to muffle a scream as the claws reach his skin underneath. With a gigantic yawn the cat withdraws its claws and slips back into a gentle sleep. Bramley rapidly moves from the bed and joins his companions. As the party is now back together, Bruno quietly closes the door and retreats into the corner awaiting the springing of the trap.
With all of his colleagues watching in horror as Yani blows on his fingers of his one hand "It might be more difficult than I thought with just one hand" he mutters under his breath. He lifts the lid slightly - enough to let his fingers slide in to feel for any wires - nothing... He opens the lid more, but keeping his head down low he prises it open further. Suddenly there is a loud click - Yani ducks lower just in time to avoid a poison dart shoot out of the chest, narrowly missing his ear, sizzle across the room and embed itself in the opposite wall. Everyone heaves a sigh of relief as Yani mutters "That was close!" and opens up the chest. "It should be safe now," he announces with apparent confidence... He notices a message written on the inside of the chest lid -
Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year
Turn99: Shane nmr: Walter continues to rest (Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz) and manages to relearn one spell in his dreams - Sleep. Bruno informs Yani & Shane about the chest  "careful ..if you want to have a look ..the boss can be very angry ..and it's possibly trapped". Bramley looks under the bed but finds nothing there, but has a strong feeling that something important is about to be discovered. Yani discovers (5XP) that the chest is indeed trapped. Walter, Shane and the cat sleep on...
Turn98: Bramley approaches the cat cautiously and prods it but the cat simply purrs, stretches and remains fast asleep. Walter throwing caution to the wind lies down on the bed cuddling up to the cat and falls asleep. Most of the party stand around watching and waiting, ready for anything while Walter gets his beauty sleep, desperately trying to relearn his spells. Meanwhile Bruno decides to open the door to the easterly room to discover another bedroom with a bed and a large chest against the wall. Since it is quiet he explores the room, feels the softness of the large well-made bed, and examines the ornate wooden chest. Everything is still quiet except for the harmonious snoring of Walter and the cat...
Turn97: nmr from Ken, & Yani. As the clock strikes "boing, boing, boing, boing", most keep weapons at the ready but Walter says "can we have a break so I can learn my spells?" Shane backs him up but Bramley opens the door to the left looking in carefully while Bruno explores the room that they are in. In the absence of anything to fight Walter lies down on the floor to rest. Bruno finds absolutely nothing even though he searches the dead minion and the gigantic bat.. Meanwhile as Bramley peers around the slightly open door he notices a large bed in the centre of the room and an exceedingly large cat lying on it, apparently fast asleep. All is deathly quiet... at least for now.
Turn96: nmr from Ken, Walter, Yani &  Shane: Bramley & Bruno continue the fight with the help of the Minion. Unfortunately both miss, but the Minion gets a critical attack to cause 4 damage to the bat. The bat on the verge of dying bites at the minion dealing a fatal bite, and the minion collapses on the floor with the bat still attached to its his neck. Bramley & Bruno take the opportunity to strike at the fluttering mammal and put it out of its misery (10 XP each). They all heave a sigh of relief as their antagonist lies dead on the floor, but regret the loss of the last of the Minions...
Turn95: nmr from Ken & Shane: They all attack the giant bat while Yani catches up with the group. Walter & Bramley fire their slings from the doorway, while Bruno rushes in wielding his sword (and torch) followed by Walter's Minion. Walter connects with the bat (3 dmg), but Bramley misses. Bruno enraged slices wide and flails around in chaos causing the Minion to miss also. Walters second shot misses, but Bramley gets lucky (2 dmg). However the bat is now annoyed and lashes out at its nearest antagonist, Bruno, but can't penetrate his armour. Bruno responds and misses in panic but this gives the chance for the Minion to grab the bat around the throat (4 dmg). Walter & Bruno continue to sling things, but unfortunately they both miss. The bat attempts to bite its strangler - latches on to the minion giving him a nasty bite (2 dmg). Yani just reaches the doorway to see the continuing fight...
Turn94: nmr from Ken & Yani: Bruno says "ok master ..we are going ..mmm remind me of the name of your dog ?" The lord replies "I can't be bothered with names - he is just called Dog, but I would like you to find him for me." Bruno lights a torch and with Bramley leads off to look through the Northern door. The rest of the party follow except Yani who remains at the main door and Ken who appears to have fallen asleep. As they open the door a large bat flutters around the room and attracted by the light attacks Bruno. Fortunately Bruno's armour protects him from a vicious bite...
Turn93: nmr from Ken, Yani & Shane: The others chat to the lord & master: Walter: "We will find that beast while you can dine on the snakes, I'll give the sack with snakes to you." Bramley: "so where is your bedroom then... can we go and look?" Bruno: "ok we will help you ..what is the name of your dog and of course ...where is the bedroom we will have a look..."
The noble muses over these strangely garbed visitors: "I'll take the hissing snakes off your hands, they might come in useful. If you can bring my dog back to me I might be grateful. He could be in any of the three bedrooms that you can get to from this room, via the connecting rooms of course. I don't have much need to go to those rooms anymore, so I don't really know. You might want to clean up any infestations in those rooms as you go - even the serving wenches won't go in them any more. Still it was nice to talk to somebody - you can go now."
Turn92: nmr from Ken : Yani tries to ward off the snakes with his torch, but since he dropped it last time it went out and it is now a damp squib. Walter casts his sleep spell on the snakes (10XP) 'hissss - hisssss, hisssss????? yawn' and orders his minion to collect them all - 'mmm snake spaghetti'. Bramley bravely moves to the table while most of the others are watching the snakes, but Shane follows him in to the room, and Bruno dares to speak "dear master we would be pleased to help you, where did you lose your dog ? Perhaps we can help you to deliver you from the curse ?" The 'lady' looks on in horror expecting the master to strike everyone down.
The master speaks: 'I should strike you down for your insolence, however I am surprised since you are the first ever to offer me any help. But no, I ought to kill you all - just for fun - I don't get much here you know.' Just as he about to unleash untold energies on the party, he realises all has gone quite. 'What have you done? All of the snakes have gone quiet. Ahhh some peace at last. Perhaps I am being too hasty - I won't kill you just yet - you may be able to help me. now let me think. The last time I saw my dog was when he was in the bedroom."
Turn91: nmr from Ken & Shane: Yani shouts "That sounds like snakes! Get ready everyone." while he draws his sword. Meanwhile Walter enters the room and bows to the master "Dear sir, we would like an audience",  just as the clock in the courtyard strikes three." Both Bramley & Bruno stay close behind the lady.
The hissing gets louder as it is clear that the grass is full of snakes heading towards the disturbance.
As the doors are pushed open the large hall is exposed to their view. The master stands in his robes behind the extensive table with a few servants dotted around the room. "An audience, you say. Why should I grant you an audience? I don't have time for this. I am upset and I've lost my dog. Have you seen him anywhere?  Begone and close the doors behind you - those snakes are starting to annoy me with their constant hissing! And take that trollop with you!"
Turn90: nmr from Ken & Shane: The leader Walter moves the group to the double doors while Yani follows & Bruno heals anyone he can reach: Ken is too far away now, but both Yani & Bramley are fully healed after having the medicine forced down their throats. Walter gently urges the 'lady' towards the open door. They can hear mutterings and growls coming from the room, but can't yet see inside clearly. Bramley follows along after failing to rest properly or learning his spell. The lady knocks gently on the door and the mutterings & growling stop "Who's there at this hour?" comes the demanding voice from inside the room. "Can't you see that I'm busy. It had better be worth my while or I will feed you to the dogs!"
The lady turns to Walter and says "Don't worry he is always a bit abrupt at this time of night."
There is an ominous 'buzzing' coming from the tall grass nearby - it hasn't been cut in years; and multiple hissssssings come from the grass slightly further away. Perhaps the threat might wake Shane & Ken up?
Turn89: nmr from Ken & Shane: Bruno chats away: "o yes we found muffin the mule (in the south stable) but not the muffin man" ...where are you escorting you (us) lady ?" Lady "Oh that's a shame. I was looking forward to seeing my boyfriend again. We never get enough time together. Never mind though - I am taking you to the see our Noble leader in his Hall - I thought that was what you wanted?"
Progress is slow and steady avoiding walking on the grass and, apart from Ken who is resting in the courtyard, the group is back together being lead by the damsel.
Turn88: nmr from Ken & Shane: Yani:  I am going to get a torch from my pack...and ask one of the others to assist in lighting it. I will give them the tinderbox I have if they do not have one. Bruno asks: "mm what is the muffin man?" while he escorts the  lady. "He's my boyfriend, silly - he looks after Muffin the Mule in the Stable. Your friend was about to go and talk to him, I thought. He is very well built for his age. He has muscles where you wouldn't imagine." Bramley rejoins the group but leaves Ken for now resting on the path. Shane has a breather while Yani manages to light his torch with one hand.
Turn87: nmr from Ken: Yani walks east with the lady chatting amiably "Yes I am seeing a lovely lass from town" "Hmm that's nice" the lady responds, "shame though". Walter runs to catch up "Huh, sorry I was sleeping" and is followed obediently by his minion.  Bramley grabs Ken to follow the main group. Bruno stays with the lady calming her down and offering potions "No, I'm fine thank you. You are a very gallant gentleman, kind sir." Shane, seeing Bramley & Ken coming towards the group shouts out "Don't cross the grass - it is trapped (5XP). The horses mutter as they leave "Huh, looks like they have left us to ourselves - what do you fancy doing? Nay Nay, Whinny, Whinny?" All around the group it is very quiet as they wander around in the dead of the night - almost too quiet. The lady asks "Have any of you seen the Muffin Man?"
Turn86: nmr from Walter & Ken: With two explorers resting the group may be splitting up - could be a dangerous ploy??? However Shane, Bruno & Yani stick together escorting the lady carefully along the path. Bramley goes to see what Ken is up to with the horses, who are happily chatting to each other. Meanwhile the leader is busily resting with his minion - who sighs resignedly. Bruno gets back to full strength as he sips his everlasting potion. The lady seems quite chatty now that she has been rescued "Do you like the gardens? It's amazing the amount of wildlife you can find in the grass. Of course if you are not careful the animals and insects can be quite protective of their area and may attack you, so it's not a sensible thing to do - to wander across the grass that is. Do you three have girlfriends?"
Turn85: nmr from Shane: Bramley buys another dagger, a sling with shot, Wolfsbane and a Healing Potion from the travelling saleswoman. Ken continues on his way to re-unite the horses but still hasn't arrived as the horse is a bit slow. Bruno asks a question of the lady "what is the name of his beloved, the name of your beloved and your name ...lady?" and then drinks a healing potion renewing 2 HP's. The maiden responds 'I am not a lady just a lowly servant and my name is Polly, have you seen my beloved? He lives on Drury Lane - you may know it from the well-known tune. No-one knows the name of his beloved - he never talks to anyone except his dog."
Turn84: Yani purchases 7 potions, drinks one (recovering 2 HP's), then makes my way towards the rest of the party. Shane sits & rests waiting for a d6cision as to what to do. Bramley goes to the Travelling salesman. Ken guides the horse towards Muffin slowly and steadily.
Walter talks to the maiden "Whom might this noble be, and who has captured him eh captured you please enlighten us" Bruno joins in "dear mademoiselle what sort of curse has the master on him ? Who is your boyfriend and where he is? We will help you".
She replies "Well boys, the Noble is the Master of the Grange  but he is very lonely since he had a Curse placed on him - he cannot die and forever wants to join his beloved who died in tragic circumstances. It is said that she gave him a treasure before she died that would release him from the Curse, but before he could use it, it was lost. He is surrounded by his servants but he is sad and his only friend is his faithful dog."
Turn83: Yani goes back to the entrance to see if he can see the Travelling salesman to buy some healing potions. "How many would you like sir?" Meanwhile Walter talks nicely to the damsel "Please my fair lady tell us what brought you here, what fate was that? And what do you know about this place?" Ken speaks to the horse "What can you tell me about this place?  Is there anything I can do to help you?" Bruno speaks to the damsel in a French accent "pleased to meet you, but who are you and why are you here mademoiselle?" Shane searches around the room with the dead spiders for special treats using his pole and Bramley rejoins the group
The horse replies to Ken 'Don't walk on the grass, it is dangerous and riddled with traps. You could release my friend, Muffin, in the other stable and he may tell you more about the master.'
The damsel replies to Walter & Bruno 'Ooo it's nice to have two men after me. I was expecting to meet my boyfriend but perhaps he never got the note that I left in the stable (turn10). Oh well never mind, I have you two men now to rescue me. I am just a poor servant in the employ of the Noble. He normally stays in the main hall feasting and is surrounded by servants, but he is cursed and desperate to be released. Perhaps you could help release him?"
While everyone ponders the information Shane pokes around in the dead spider but doesn't find anything.
Turn82: Yani backs out of stable1, Keeping his eye on the other two spiders, and defending himself - fortunately they don't follow him. While Ken is more interested in the horse and tries to calm it down - and succeeds in stopping the horse running around, who then whinnies gratefully. Walter enters the room to look at the damsel and  introduce himself as the great leader coming to rescue her "Yea right" she mutters "just get me out of here... please. Do you know any magic tricks? They make me go weak at the knees." Shane, clearly confused, fires an arrow at a dead spider just to make sure. Bramley asks for more healing but is ignored due to the temptation of a damsel tied up. Bruno complains that he is more of a healer really, but burns and cuts the web to release the damsel. "Oh thank you, kind sir. Oh my... haven't you got big muscles. If there is anything I can do for you then please ask me."
Turn81: Shane nmr: The split team are getting desperate now. Bramley withdraws to have a potion thrown down his throat by Bruno, while Ken fights on. The damsel is seemingly forgotten for now in the panic "Don't leave me, don't leave me, please... I'm frightened all tangled up in this web!" Shane just lies back and admires the damsel. Ken can't move that quickly but gets within range of the spider attacking Yani and fires his shortbow which thuds into the Spider causing 5 dmg. Yani swings his sword but due to his weakened state misses. However Ken had struck the killing blow. The other two spiders exceedingly angry now but try to hide within their webs. The horse goes absolutely frantic and manages to break free and charge out of the room.
Turn80: Bruno nmr: With a scream of rage Yani attacks the spider closest to him, with his sword all on his own. While Walter's minion rushes in to attack in the Hay Loft and Shane swings in. Bramley tries his dagger & Ken fires from a distance. Ken narrowly misses, and so does Shane, Bramley however scores a hit causing minimal damage but it is enough to cause the killing blow. Walters Minion also hits the spider to good effect (15XP to Ken, 10XP to Bramley & Walter) but in its frantic dying throws the spider bites Bramley causing 3 damage & injects poison which becomes infected. If he doesn't get protection against poison soon he will suffer irreparable damage.
Meanwhile Yani takes on a spider in the stable - he slashes at it with his sword causing 3 damage but not enough to really worry the spider who attempts to bite back and latches onto Yani causing 3 damage but not poisonous. The party seem to be really suffering against these spiders... Can they survive??????

As the clock strikes boing, Ken, Bramley, Bruno & Shane leap into the attack to defend the maiden in distress. Ken scores a critical hit (12 dmg), Bramley, Bruno & Shane miss, all clearly distracted by the maiden in her short skirt. The spider lashes out at its nearest antagonist which is Bramley but is injured so badly that it completely misses and almost bites itself. Walter runs towards the rest of the group as quickly as he can and gets within shouting distance in an attempt to co-ordinate the party, followed rapidly by his remaining minion. Yani checks the next room to the south to determine what the scuttling is. He is a bit shocked to find a room covered in spider webs and sporting at least 3 spiders, all intent on terrorising a poor horse trapped in the far corner of the Stables.
Turn78: nmr Walter, Shane & Ken: Some confusion over what is happening with the party with Bramley rushing in heroically, while Yani waits to see what happens and Bruno backs off. As Bramley bursts through the door he is confronted by a large spider that is terrorising a pretty damsel in distress huddled up in the corner of the room - 'get it away from me please, I think they are horrible. Please save me' 'Hiss, click, click' rattles the spider as it spins a web across the corner of the room where the damsel is cowering. Meanwhile Yani & Bruno both hear some strange scuttling noises coming from the unopened nearby room.
Turn77: nmr Walter & Shane: The majority severely affected by the shout for help burst through the door of a 'Feed' room to see sacks of grain and bails of hay around the edge of the room swarming with rats. Most scurry away into holes but 5 of them stand their ground ready to defend the food. Bramley stabs with his dagger in one hand missing and a flaming torch in the other which he thrusts into the eye of the large rat causing 2 damage. Ken gives an almighty swing of his sword missing one but slicing into another with a critical hit despatching it nicely, while Bruno chops with his axe missing one but connecting with a second and killing it outright. The three remaining rats attack narrowly missing Bramley, and bouncing off Ken & Bruno's armour. With no time to regroup the intrepid fighters wade in again. Bramley does the same missing with his dagger but thrusting his firebrand into its other eye and incinerating it. Bruno chops down, but misses splitting a sack of grain all over the floor. Ken also unfortunately misses. The two rats left continue attacking Ken & Bruno as the most likely threat (although not very accurately), one skids off Bruno but the other manages to nip Ken on the ankle causing 3 damage. Bramley again thrusts with his dagger and torch again scoring with his trusty torch causing 2 damage to the 'flying' rat that now blinded manages to decapitate itself on Bruno's axe. Meanwhile Ken, in real pain, thrusts out with his sword to skewer the last rat against the back of the door.
They all heave a sigh of relief except for Ken who is worried about infection from his wound, but they are alerted again by more screams coming from the other side of the next door.
Turn76: With the exception of Walter who is moving house the rest of the party run, jog and walk towards the corner doorway and all carefully listen there. They all hear lots of scurrying around and 'squeek, squeek' coming from behind the door. Also there a sudden shriek 'Oh help me please. I hate these things. Get away, get away."
Turn75: Walter nmr? but his minion stays with him The majority run back towards the stable - not sure why since the big '?' could be a significant clue to the location of the hayloft (see turn 8). They fortunately follow the path around the outside of the grass as both Yani and Shane feel that there is something a bit slimy about it. Bruno & Yani stick together just outside of the double doors to the Servant's Hall. Apart from the occasional slither, ribbit and hiss nothing else disturbs the party's movement. Shane keeps up with Bramley, but Ken is left on his own.
Turn74: Walter nmr. The leader seems to be out of it for now. Apart from Shane & Yani who have little Charisma, the other 3 could all be second-in-command. Perhaps you need to elect a second-in-command or press the leader to be more active. Bramley returns from his brief exploration no worse from the journey, but can't quite reach the group yet, and Yani checks that their return route is clear for now. No-one seems to take any notice of Shane's suggestion to find the owner of the place.
Turn73: Walter, Shane & Yani  nmr. Everyone rests except Bramley who continues to explore down the corridor. However he discovers nothing as yet. The clock strikes Midnight - it looks as if the meeting may well be missed.
Turn72: Shane & Yani  nmr. Apart from Bramley who wanders off examining the corridor on his own everyone else wants to rest. An hour quickly goes past as they recuperate their strength. Yani & Shane have both fully recovered while the fighters still have some way to go. Bramley disappointingly doesn't find anything hidden or lying around in the corridor, but fortunately nothing attacks him either. Any remains of the dead rats have long since disintegrated. At present nothing threatens the party!?! (Wasn't there some scroll discovered earlier that mentions a meeting at midnight???)
Turn71:

Shane nmr. Bramley drinks the red potion and floats 4 feet above the ground where the rats can't get him. Ken & Bruno dash back to protect their friends, and attack the rats as they run into the room. With surprise on their side they have smotre the rats but they were much too fast for them and immediately attack the armour clad fighters. Ken protects himself well but Bruno gets bitten through a chink in his armour causing a massive 6 damage. On the rebound Ken misses yet again, and Bruno in his agony drops the axe onto his own foot (1 damage), but Walter whips his sling around to distract the rat to no avail, and his last of the minions latches onto the rat and throttles it before it can do any further damage. (10XP to Walter). The last rat this time manages to grab Ken causing 5 damage. Bramley attempts to reach the rat on Ken's shoulder from his higher vantage point and skewers it on the end of his dagger. (10XP) Both fighters severely damage check for any poison in their wounds - and both discover the worst as the sweat breaks out on their foreheads. How quickly the poison will take effect is difficult to tell, but they are both in serious trouble now... The physical threat of the rats has now disappeared but nearly all of the party are injured.
Turn70:

Everyone retreats except Bramley who searches for oil or similar, but finds nothing. Bruno mutters 'only 2 rats!!!!!'. Within seconds the rats chew their way through the door, and burst into the room sniffing the air. Apparently they cannot see anyone in the room, but they sense a presence and prepare to attack anything that moves...Shane nmr.
Turn69:

Bramley & Walter (feeling a little better) try to stem the tide of rats. Bramley pours more poison under the door but the rats are wise to this now and ignore it. Walter instructs his staff to turn into a snake, sends it under the door to attack. The rats are almost frozen by this new attacker so the snake strikes first and immediately kills one mercilessly (10XP to Walter). The remaining 5 rats pounce onto the snake - one manages to bite the snake causing 2 damage, which puts the snake off his second attack. The 5 rats continue their frenzy and inflict another bite (1 dmg). This time the snake coils around to dispatch one of the rats biting it (10XP to Walter). The 4 remaining rats lusting for blood are unable to grab the coiling snake at first, but then two latch on quickly (7 dmg) which enables the snake to crush another one (10XP to Walter). The three see the snake is faltering so one bites hard (1 dmg) but a confused rat kills its brother in the mayhem. Only 2 left to continue - one bite causing severe damage (5 dmg). The snake now severely weakened misses both rats. They don't give up and with one more bite (4 dmg) the snake expires. Walter is severely upset by the loss of his snake staff, and the whole group is stunned by the ferocity of these rats. The remaining rats start to scratch and gnaw frantically at the door. Most of the party retreat rapidly into the dining room.
Turn68:

Walter tries to scare rats with his staff, but he is too weak to do anything - however his minion understands his intent and brandishes the staff menacingly. As Bruno administers his everlasting potion to Walter & Shane it starts to take effect as they both recover slightly. Yani rests but it will take a long time to recover any more of his strength simply by resting. Meanwhile Bramley & Ken do their best to keep the door shut. The rats start intent scratching and gnawing at the door. One rat sees the poison creeping under the door, sniffs and tastes it - and immediately keels over (8XP to Ken, 1XP to Walter [his potion], 1XP to Shane [encouragement to Ken]) - none of the others touch it. The force of the staff makes the rats momentarily pause in their endeavours to get through the door.
Bramley's torch (that he had probably forgotten about) goes out.
Turn67:

Bruno obviously has a thing for Yani since he keeps pouring the everlasting potion down his throat, and Yani slowly recovers. Meanwhile Ken & Bramley stand guard since they have decided that is what they are best at - probably just as well as they hear the sound of rats returning behind the closed door. Walter seems to be getting worse with no-one paying him any attention at the moment, although his last remaining Minion looks concernedly on!!!
Turn66:

As Bruno dispenses his everlasting healing potion to Walter, Shane, Yani & Ken. Walter immediately regains consciousness but is very weak, he then sips some of the potion that Ken (Fighters are not normally noted for Intelligence & Wisdom or memory either?!?) has taken from Walter's pack - but with a horrible gurgling sound drops back into unconsciousness. Shane concentrating on sucking out the poison, has a quick swig of Bruno's potion and recovers slightly. Yani & Ken also recover slightly, but Walter now looks very seriously ill. And with a groan Minion2 expires!!!

The emphasis seems to be on resting - but for how long, while Ken, Bramley & Bruno (with 2 remaining minions) fight off the last 2 rats in the room. The 2 minions despatch the one rat (10XP to Walter) while the threesome despatch the last rat easily (4XP each). Minion2 however is looking decidedly green. Walter, Yani & Shane are looking none too well either - they are in desperate need of healing quickly. Both Yani & Shane try a Saving Throw vs Poison but are unsuccessful. Unfortunately Walter takes a turn for the worse and lapses into unconsciousness.
Turn64: The fight continues: Ken slashes at the rat nearest the N door killing it outright (10XP), Bruno attacks the rat nearest Shane giving it a messy death (10XP), and Bramley cleverly stabs at the rat behind the door, but misses. The minions attack the rats nearest them - the first misses but the second dispatches the rat (10XP to Walter), giving Yani & Shane a chance to rest - staving off the poison a while, and Walter casts his Ventriloquism spell (20XP).
The two surviving rats in the room leap at Ken & Minion1, both unsuccessfully.
The ventriloquism successfully sends the now smaller pack of rats in the corridor shrieking off to the west.
Turn63: With a mad panic Walter and Bruno manage to get Ken back through the door and slam it shut... but not before 3 rats get through. The minions continue the fight inside the room while Bramley desperately tries to prevent Yani being overwhelmed. Ken, in his rush, misses his target while Walter & Bruno are too busy to defend themselves. The relevant rats attack! - both Ken & Bruno are protected by their armour but Walter is bitten by a particularly nasty rat causing 3 damage. Shane is oblivious to all of this activity, and unfortunately neither of the two minions manage to hit their rats. Minion2 gets bitten but the other is OK so far. Meanwhile Yani & Bramley attack their rat and with a sigh of relief from both of them dispatch it it without ceremony.
Walter, Shane & Yani are all in serious condition with the rat bites, and there may be a risk of infection. 5 aggressive rats remain in the room getting angrier by the minute. The rats outside start scratching at the door to get in and join the fight. How long can the intrepid team keep going??????
Turn62: Bruno runs back into the Cloakroom with Walter hiding behind him, while Bramley goes the same route to help Yani, leaving Ken alone in the corridor fighting the rest of the hoard. Ken & Bruno neatly dispatches one more (10XP each), but the rat is too quick for Shane, and Yani is panicking and nearly skewers Bramley attempting to rescue him, but Bramley, put off by the wild action of Yani, also misses the rat. Fortunately Minion2 manages to throttle one of the rats. (10XP to Walter). The rats miss Ken & Minion1, but bite Yani & Shane (2 dmg each) who are now both in serious trouble.
Turn61: Yani gives Walter the Staff, and the rest of the party run to help stop the rats. Bruno attempts to close the door with one hand, while brandishing a sword with the other, and since many hands make light work, a torch bursts into flame. However the wave of rats prevent the door closing and they all rush through to attack anything they can see. Bruno skewers the first through the door & sets fire to the second(20XP); Walter flattens the next with his staff(10XP); Ken decapitates another(10XP); and Minion2 manages to strangle yet another(10XP to Walter); But Minion1 & 3 put up a brave fight, and while one holds the rat off him, Minion3 gets bitten in the throat and immediately expires; Yani manages to draw his sword but not quickly enough and a rat latches onto him but fortunately doesn't get a grip. Bramley& Shane seem totally in shock at this turn of events and do nothing to defend themselves. A rat leaps at each of them but with Bramley wearing the Elven Boots the rat can't see him well enough and misses, Shane however gets bitten on his hand (1 dmg) and can't shake the rat off. Total mayhem continues as more rats pour through the door
Turn60: Walter asks Yani if he can borrow the wand, or teach him, but it can only be used by a MU or Cleric. Bramley gets the cloak and boots and when he puts the boots on, his feet & legs disappear. Meanwhile Shane runs across and stuffs the cloak in his pocket without anyone else realising (1XP).
One of the minions starts mumbling and says "Our Lord and Master has just issued an announcement that all servants should attend his presence in the Main Hall immediately to receive a small gift as a token of his appreciation, or else!"
Oblivious to this Ken wanders along the corridor and Bruno examines the door in the opposite direction. Ken just sees the corridor stretching out in front of him, but as Bruno carefully opens the door he is surprised by a deluge of rats surging towards him.
Turn59: Walter tells the minions "you need not worry about the master for I will talk to him and then he won't mind...". They don't seem convinced, but shrug their shoulders and await their next instructions. Shane & Bruno stand guard, while Ken has a look through the northern door, and Walter & Bramley examine the items. Yani relaxes and as a result of feeding and drinking well renews some of his health.
Walter discovers (10XP) that Yani's wand is a 'Snake Staff'. Bramley identifies (10XP) the Sword & Chain Mail as normal, but the Cloak & Boots are Elven, and therefore magical. As Ken opens the door he perceives a long corridor with nothing in it (yet!). In view of the initial warning from the minions the cloak, boots, chain mail & sword are left in place - at least for now.
Turn58: As Shane backs away nervously muttering "I think we should talk about this", Ken & Bramley examine the room. Meanwhile Bruno stands guard, Yani grabs some food from the table - mad fool, and Walter has a look at Yani's magic item. After some detailed examination Walter announces that it is a wand of some sort (10XP), but will take a more detailed look to find out exactly what it is. Yani says "hey this food is really good" stuffing as much into his mouth as possible. After a few minutes of this he decides to sit down to eat more. In the light of Bramley's torch Ken finds a door to what appears to be a corridor, and along the East wall puts his hands on a large sword, and a pair of very fine quality boots - Bramley finds some Chain Mail and a cloak of very strong but light material. As soon as these items are touched the minions that have followed Walter emit a strange shriek "don't touch those - the master will not be pleased - it is certain death if he finds out!"
Turn57: It must be time for bed said Zebedee, as we have nmr from Walter & Bruno, and Yani rests some more. Bramley lights a torch to brighten the way. Yani examines his magic item but only a magician can tell him more about it. With no instructions the minions start milling around in uncertainty. As Bramleys torch shines around the room it is obvious that it is a cloak room with rows of cloaks, armour, helms and boots. Four items stand out from the crowd against the back wall. There is no-one around at the moment to disturb the scene, but there is a sharp intake of breath from each of the minions. Shane gets the distinct feeling that it would not be wise not to disturb anything.
Turn56: Well everyone seems to be following the leader for now, except for Yani who feels like a rest. The two Magic Users bravely open the easterly door. However with Shane moving carefully and Ken heavily weighed down they lag behind the fleet-of-foot magicians. Bruno doesn't quite reach the door so he can't block it, which is just as well since only 2 of the party are in the next room. The minions follow closely behind the leaders. The door opens onto a pitch black room, but nothing leaps out at the almost defenceless Walter & Bramley. Even the light from the servant's hall doesn't seem to illuminate this musty, dark room.
Turn55: While Ken & Yani do a bit of searching Walter moves East rejoined by Bramley and followed by his 3 minions, and Bruno closes the door to stand guard over the doorway (& Shane).
Yani finds 60 Gold and one magic item on the corpse. Ken finds 2 torches in the cupboards with plenty of food, knives, forks & spoons.
Turn54: Yani, Ken & Shane all attack the last 'uncontrolled' servant - they all cause him damage to cut him down before he can attack any further (4 XP each). All goes quiet, after Walter commands evertone to "shusssh". As Bramley searches the bedroom he finds a small bag with 3 gems in it hidden under the mattress. The clock strikes eight.
Turn53: Shane fiddles with his bow while Ken examines the dead ferret and Bramley looks inside the Servant's Bedroom. The others continue the fight with the servants. Ken doesn't find anything on the ferret but it smells a bit! Bramley sees a big bed against the back wall. Meanwhile Yani finishes off the head-servant (20 XP). The two remaining 'uncontrolled' servants lash out at the perpetrators of the crime against their household. One attacks Yani with a fork causing 2 damage but is attacked by Bruno who puts him out of his misery (10 XP). The other servant throws his dinner knife at Bruno, but misses. The controlled servants are unable to inflict any damage on their friends.
Turn52: As Walter calls for help from his charmed minions they move towards him. Shane, Ken & Bramley fire their weapons at the white creature, not knowing what it is (check the monster table). Yani & Bruno draw their swords at the ready to fend off the monster, when it gets close enough. The rest of the servants including the head watch in amazement. "Don't hurt my pet!!!!!" The two arrows strike home but the slingshot misses. However the white furry thing is killed outright (5 XP to Shane & Ken). As a result the head-servant leaps at Walter bare-handed. He has time to throw one punch but misses, before his own 'charmed' friend tries to stab him with his dinner fork - he completely misses. However Yani, at the ready takes an almighty swipe at him, causing major damage but not quite dispatching him. The head-servant shouts 'attack, attack' as he lies in a pool of blood.
Turn51: Walter casts his Charm Person spell: The leader and 2 of his seated friends are unaffected, but 3 others immediately fall in love with Walter and will do whatever he asks.(20XP to Walter). The leader is clearly not happy about this ' What are you doing? No I will not be charmed.' and he pulls out his massive chopper. The other servants that are unaffected leap out of their chairs and draw large carving knives and move to help their leader.
Meanwhile the party have regrouped - and Shane wakes up looking very confused at the unfolding dramatic change in circumstances. Bruno is the only one with weapon at the ready.
Walter asks quickly about the Master of the house, secret doors & treasures. The controlled servants respond in unison 'Master- bad, cruel, evil. Secret Doors - none, but traps - many. Treasures - buried- free us, free us, free us!'
Suddenly behind them the party hear a rapid scratching at the door - it creaks open  to reveal an enormous white furry thing with sharp teeth hissing menacingly!
