General Description: For 3-6 players
Age of Steam relives the era of the pioneer US (and now around the World) railroads building the track that transformed America's economy. Can you finance the most extensive track network and the most powerful locomotives? Which routes will give the best return on their costs? Can you beat the opposition to the most lucrative shipments? Will you make enough money to pay your aggressive creditors?

Comments from Players:
North America: Original standard map. Good for all levels of experience. Can be a bottleneck in the middle. CRJB

BlackCountry: a fun map! Still needs some adjusting, but interesting changes from the base game (sort of like Disco Inferno but different).
Don't let one player have control of the Bescot-SOUTH corridor! RP
Differences from the Standard Rules: Goods held at Bescot, two Cities - Bescot, THE SOUTH take all colours of Goods

England
: Nice straightforward map. Good for all levels of experience. Just note the restriction of Red Goods to London only CRJB
Differences from the Standard Rules: Only one Red City-London: No Red Urbanisation

France
: probably better with fewer than 5 players; maybe a good introductory map? RP
Differences from the Standard Rules: Engineer required to build into hills and not 4 track. Production can allow one 'random' goods to be placed in a city of choice. Urbanisation allows only 2 track (not 3) in addition to the city. No bankruptcy!

Germany:
The initial colours of the off-board cities on the German map greatly affect the tenor of play.  Also, I have yet to play on a bad map. DH
Differences from the Standard Rules: No uncompleted links allowed. Engineering allows 1 track at half cost and not 4 track. Random choice of colours for Foreign 'Cities'

Ireland: tough with 4; better with experienced players RP
Differences from the Standard Rules:

Italy
: Very restrictive map. A totally different style of play required due to the unlimited track building. CRJB
Differences from the Standard Rules:

Western US: interesting changes from basic game; probably needs players to start on both coasts? RP
Differences from the Standard Rules: can only start from specified Cities and track must be contiguous until East-west linked. Bonus Income from linking East Coast to West Coast
