18xx Variants                                                                    Return to Home page
General Description: For 2-9 players
Although I enjoy the basic principle of these game, I am not a purist, and I'm a bit anti-financial/share based games. So I hope I won't upset too many people by saying that this really is one game with numerous variations in the Rules. Some are fairly simplistic and quick such as 1876, others are exceedingly complex and long winded. There is a massive following for these Variants, particularly of the more serious kind. Almost every location in the world (and outside) is catered for, and the game titles reflect, at least in principle, the state of the Railways in a specific country at that specific date. The ones I have listed here are just a small selection of which I have the board game itself (with the exception of 1825 which is almost non-financial, and therefore in my mind more enjoyable).
The aim of the game is to make money by building/running railways, and buying/selling shares in the Companies.
